Haven't done one of these in awhile
Q: What is your cosplay alias?
A: Meahow or MeahowCosplay (depending on if my username is taken XP)
Q: How many years have you cosplayed?
A: Exactly ten, I started cosplaying in October 2005.
Q: How did you get into cosplaying?
A: One Halloween I decided to dress up as my favorite anime character, Edward Elric. I made a really awful costume but I enjoyed wearing it. The next month I heard about a local convention and I thought it would be cool if I went in costume. Little did I know, other people would be in costume too. Thus I learned of the world of cosplay.
Q: What was your first convention and how did it go?
A: This kind of ties in with the previous question, it was Gen Con Anaheim 2005. I barely remember any of it because I had my wisdom teeth taken out the day before, and I was on medication XD
Q: How many cons have you been to?
A: Between 25 and 30.
Q: How many cosplays have you done?
A: I believe the current count is at 36, though I may be forgetting one or two.
Q: What was your first cosplay and why did you choose it?
A: Edward Elric because Fullmetal Alchemist is my favorite anime and I hardcore relate to Ed.
Q: What is your favourite cosplay you've done so far?
A: Ugggh, that’s a tough one. Probably my Princess Peach??
Q: What is your least favourite you've cosplayed?
A: I’d have to say Kaname from Full Metal Panic. It was one of my early attempts at sewing, the wig didn’t fit properly, and it was all done last minute.
Q: What cosplay is the most uncomfortable?
A: It’s a tie between Lilith from Borderlands or Rainbow Rocks Rarity. With Lilith, there was a lot of layers and leather, and I was wearing it in the middle of a California summer. With Rarity the shoes were reeeeeeally uncomfortable. High heels covered in worbla and gems? Yeah, no.
Q: How do you research the cosplay before you make it?
A: Google, re-watching the anime/re-playing the game/re-reading the book/etc., more Google.
Q: Do you sew your cosplays yourself?
A: Yep. Unless it’s like a pair of jeans or something I could just find at Goodwill.
Q: If so, how did you learn to sew? If not, do you plan to learn?
A: My mom used to sew my cosplays so I learned a tiny bit from watching her, but mostly I learned from tutorials and trial/error.
Q: Do you make your own props?
A: Yep, been making those longer than I’ve been sewing.
Q: If so, how did you learn to? If not, do you plan to learn?
A: Mostly internet. My dad is a machinist though, so when he feels like helping that comes in handy.
Q: Do you style your own wigs?
A: Yeah, I haven’t done any really intricate wigs yet though.
Q: What other skills do you use to create your cosplays?
A: Art stuffs, I guess. Painting and designing.
Q: What skill has been most useful for making your cosplay?
A: Umm.. does stubbornness count?
Q: What is the hardest thing when making a cosplay?
A: Having the patience to do things the correct way.
Q: What was the biggest screw up you've had making a cosplay?
A: I completely ruined my first Juliet Starling cosplay with an iron the day I was wearing it. We ended up just throwing some red paint all over it and calling it “battle torn”.
Q: How often do you injure yourself while making a cosplay?
A: I’ve only seriously burned myself once, though I stab myself with pins frequently.
Q: Do you try to stay cheap or do you splurge on materials?
A: I usually try to stay cheap when I can, but I’ll splurge on wigs or worbla.
Q: Have you ever cosplayed with a partner or group?
A: Oh yeah. Pretty much every cosplay I’ve done in the past 5 years.
Q: Do you try to act in character?
A: Depends on the character
Q: Have you ever done fan service at a con? (yaoi, yuri, etc)
A: My boyfriend and I have done a lot of couples stuff (both yaoi and hetero) but Idk if it’s really considered fan service kissing someone I kiss regularly? XD
Q: How do you react to cosplayers dressed as character from the same anime/game/etc?
A: I try to act in character with them.
Q: Do you try to duplicate your character's expressions, walk, movements, etc?
A: I try, but with characters that are similar to me, I find it more difficult.
Q: When crossplaying, do you try to act as much like the gender as possible?
A: Definitely. People often mistake me for a guy. I am probably most in character when crossplaying.
Q: What was your funniest experience of acting in character?
A: My second ever convention, I was cosplaying as Winry from FMA and an Edward cosplayer proposed to me. It was super cute.
Q: What was your worst experience acting in character?
A: This one time I was doing an improve scene as Roxas and the girl that was Kairi slapped me. Like legitimately slapped me.
Q: Do you compete in cosplay contests?
A: I haven’t yet, though I plan to soon.
Q: Have you won anything?
A: Only Facebook contests.
Q: Do you prefer skits or walk-ons?
A: Skits, for sure.
Q: How many friends have you made because of cosplay?
A: Like, half the people I regularly talk to.
Q: Do you attend photo shoots and meet-ups outside of conventions?
A: I try to, but I don’t as often as I should.
Q: What is the funniest reaction you've gotten cosplaying from people?
A: A disturbing amount of people think my Roxas wig is my real hair.
Q: How long do you think you'll be cosplaying for?
A: Until I die? XD
Q: Name a few cosplays you're planning to do next:
A: Starfleet Security (maybe???), Vaporeon, Fem!Sasuke,
Ahri! AHRI AHRI AHRI!!!!
Q: What is your dream cosplay?
A: Lulu from Final Fantasy X, which has been my dream since I first learned of cosplay.
Q: What do you take into consideration when picking a character to cosplay?
A: How I’m going to make each individual piece, what convention I’m taking it to, how much time it will take, how much money it will cost, etc.
Q: Is cosplay serious business for you?
A: To an extent. The goal is still to have fun, but I’m more serious about it than I used to be.
Q: What is your favourite thing about cosplay?
A: Expressing my love for characters, making something I proud of, being a derp with friends.
Q: What is your least favourite?
A: How much money it costs, A-holes on the internet.
Q: Tag some fellow cosplayers~:
